Hope its the best ever for you, amigos!
Too Nice Guys has some interesting stuff for 2008, even though the strike has us all squirming in Hollywood. We’re still looking for a good deal for NICKY’S BIRTHDAY CAMERA. I know there’s someone out there who can help us get it done. Right now, Lance Crayon of Pantheon in LA is shopping the movie around for us. Keep your digits crossed.
MAKING AN INDY FILM: THE FIRST THREE LESSONS is completed and available. With the help of our usual crew of nice guys and some super young talent from the GCC Media Department (notably Fabiola Prieto and Jeff Davis), this little doc rocks! It will be featured as supplementary DVD material on the “NBC” DVD.
We’re getting ready to launch our web series HOLLYWOOD ACTING CLASS WITH MICHAEL SUNSHINE. This, our first venture onto the web, will feature bright, young talent from LA in a short episode drama format. Follow the adventures of this fascinating group of would-be stars as they pursue their dreams (and each other) along The Boulevard Of Broken Dreams. And by the way… What really DID happen to Anna Corizon?
NEWSFLASH: Nice Guy director Andrew J. Traister (NICKY’S BIRTHDAY CAMERA) is nominated for 2 Los Angeles Drama Critics’ Awards for his stage production of WAITING FOR GODOT at A Noise Within theatre. Congrats, Andrew! Andrew also continues to shop around the script for THE BALLAD OF MOTHER MARY, a feature film (screenplay by John Walcutt from Sandra Anderson’s novel) which TOO NICE GUYS has been developing for Annette Bening.
Nice gal Tanya Swerling (editor of “NBC”) is cutting the terrific HBO series IN TREATMENT with Gabriel Byrne. Go girl!
John Walcutt’s 2007 started with his SAG AWARD (LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE) and ended on CRIMINAL MINDS with old pal Joe Mantegna, and with the sale of his latest screenplay, TRINITY’S TRIUMPH to
Kathe Carson Productions. John is Exec Producing the upcoming HOLLYWOOD ACTING CLASS, and will play Michael Sunshine.
We’re also very happy to have the help of nice gal Kathy Dowling of Shadoeworks, who designed our website, working with us on “HOLLYWOOD CLASS”. She’s the cheese!

Andrew’s interview with Perlich on LA’s classical station 88.5 was terrific! Mr. Perlich had watched “NBC” more than once and was very familiar with the film. The intelligent and spirited interview lasted 30 minutes and Mr. Perlich raved about our little movie.
Some quotes from him:
“A brilliant, brilliant one of a kind movie…A wonderful, wonderful movie…
A masterly work in the tradition of Johnathan Swift (GULLIVER’S TRAVELS), Ibsen, and Hitchkock…A very sexy movie, funny and dark…
The acting is wonderful… the music is wonderful:haunting, beautiful and evocative…
it’s beautifully shot…The script is pure genius…
An absolutely brilliant film you really should see…A wonderful work of art.”
Congratulations, everyone. And THANK YOU, MARTIN!

We’re very happy to be working with Mr. Lance Crayon of PANTHEON AGENCY in Los Angeles. He has come on board as our NICKY’S BIRTHDAY CAMERA Sales Rep. Lance is a well-established L.A. talent rep, and PANTHEON is a hot agency. Mr. Crayon saw “NBC” as a judge on the board of the AFI FILM FESTIVAL, and although we didn’t get into that fest, Lance was a great champion for us and continues to feel very strongly about the movie. He actually approached us about repping the film, and his passion for it won us over. Lance is currently in discussion with distributors regarding our sales. He is also the person to contact if you are in acquisitions, at PANTHEON: (310) 461-3644.

On Monday, November 19, at 4pm PST, Director Andrew Traister will be the guest of famed
and long-time radio and TV personality Martin Perlich on Perlich’s radio show at 88.5 FM. Mr. Perlich is a wonderful interviewer and has seen NICKY’S BIRTHDAY CAMERA, loved it, and wants to have Andrew on his show to talk about the film. Our little group of champions for the film continues to grow! Thank you, Martin!

“NICKY’S BIRTHDAY CAMERA” did well at the eclectic Brooklyn International Film Festival. As a result of the festival, we were invited to Milan, where we planned our European debut! Alas, the film was held up at customs (seized? A scandal!) and we missed the fest. Looking now for the appropriate next step. Many bites from small distributors…we’ll find a good fit! Also, many good early reviews showing up at www.imdb.com>nicky’sbirthdaycamera>comments. Check them out! So, we push on! Coming soon to a video store near you!!!
BIG NEWS: We have obtained the screenrights to Sandra Jones Anderson’s book IN THE EYE OF THEIR HURRICANE, which tells the true story of Maria Buchanon (name changed) and her rise to international fame as San Francisco’s leading interior designer in the 1970’s and 1980’s. Paralleling the amazing ascent of her career, Maria grows troubled as the ranks of her design team are devastated and quickly decimated by a mysterious “gay cancer”. At first insisting it’s none of her business, Maria eventually can no longer ignore the plague around her and becomes one of the very first celebrities fighting AIDS. A powerful star vehicle, Walcutt will write the script and Traister will direct. Part MEPHISTO, part THE QUEEN, and set against the backdrop of the hedonistic seventies, the film unflinching goes where only THE BAND PLAYED ON dared to tread before. Work is underway now to get the script developed for Annette Bening. Stay tuned!
ALSO NEW: “MAKING AN INDY FILM”, our new 90 minute documentary, is available by mail order. It will also serve as supplemental DVD material on the “NICKY’S BIRTHDAY CAMERA” disc. It’s a terrific “first three lessons” in how to make your first film a reality and a success. Referenced, down to earth, and entertaining, it’s really the first money anyone should spend who’s interested in making their own film. From producers, writers, directers, actors, DP, editor, scoring…all the way to catering, the info is invaluable. Watch for it!

NBC is getting lots of bites now for distribution and small film festivals! We continue to angle for the next best move as we prep for our summer L.A. Premiere and sale. We’d like to screen once in the NYC area before we break in L.A… John, C.B. and a team of young filmmakers from Glendale City College have been working on wonderful documentary material for supplemental DVD stuff in anticipation of our sale. It should be a really interesting glimpse into the making of NBC, and a valuable primer for any young filmmaker. So far, Andrew, John, C.B., Tanya, Sheri, Gregg, Brian Franklin, Jamie, and Michael Grasso have agreed to take part…THE ALPHA GEEK nears its post completion! Andrew, John, musician Kurt Gellerstad, and new Nice Guy, Editor Mike Petros spit and polish. It looks fun! NICE BITES: John is part of the BEST ENSEMBLE AWARD from the SAG for LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE; also (remarkably) nominated for a BEST PICTURE ACADEMY AWARD! You see? Little films CAN break through! As you probably know, LMS took years to get made. John also continues as WIDE BRIM on GHOST WHISPERER. Jamie McShane continues a great TV season with 7 guest stars, including recurring on THE NINE. James Molina, who’s first film was NBC, is in ALPHA DOG with Justin Timberlake. Sheri Hellard just wrapped shooting in Rome on a new short. And send all your love to our pal Bob, who’s still recovering from his accident in Hawaii…Let us know what YOU’RE up TO!
